On Friday 23rd August, in their first of three Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa, West Indies had no answer to nicholas pooran’s rampage. The left handed wicket-keeper batsman remained unbeaten at 65 off just 26 deliveries after he batted number three in a game played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

The knock offensive resulted into Men in Maroon winning by seven wickets against Aiden Markram’s side which had three wickets down and was chasing 175 runs in 17.5 overs.
He made it to three figures of sixes with incredible shots during the series opener at the Tarouba when he hit seven balls for sixes thus increasing his total tally of sixes to 139 amongst all T20I batsmen. This would be after he overtook India’s Suryakumar Yadav (136), Glenn Maxwell (134) of Australia and England’s limited-overs captain Jos Buttler (137).

For most sixes hit in international T20 matches, the record holder is Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who has struck a total of: one hundred and fifty nine runs for four thousand two hundred and thirty-one runs including two hundred and five sixes. He scored a double century of sixes in T20Is, making him the first and only player to achieve this feat in the history of the format, playing 159 matches over a 17-year career.
The next in line after Rohit is opener Martin Guptill from New Zealand who has struck one hundred and seventy three shots at other end.
Nooran is fifth six hitting batsman according to the list. Nooran has already hit 537 sixes on 352 T20 matches so far. Chris Gayle currently holds the record for most sixes in T20 cricket, having scored a total of 1056 maximums in his 463-match career as captain and opening batsman for West Indies.
After Gayle there are New Zealanders Colin Munro (548) Andre Russell (704), and Kieron Pollard (877).
Pooran will once again play for Rovman Powell’s team when they take on South Africa in their second Twenty20 International scheduled for Sunday August twenty-fifth at Brian Lara Stadium.
