jay shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will take over as the new chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Greg Barclay, as stated by sources from NDTV. During one of his conference calls with ICC directors including Mike Baird, who heads Cricket Australia and others, he shared that he does not have any plans to run for this position for a third time.
He made this decision when he found out that Jay Shah would take over from him in November. He has managed to secure the support of England and Australian cricket boards that are expected to vote him into office.

jay shah officially replaces Barclay?
Only four people from India have held this position before including Jagmohan Dalmiya (1997–200), Sharad Pawar (2010–2012) who were both presidents and N Srinivasan together with Shashank Manohar who served as chairmen at different times. In November when Shah officially replaces Barclay he will then become the third person to do so. Amit Shah, India’s home affairs minister is also his father.
“In conclusion His Excellency Chair Greg Barclay told his board members of his non- intention to contest again once his current tenure ends in November” said an ICC spokeswoman according to The Age.

“By 27 August 2024, present directors must make nominations for potential candidates for next chair; if more than one nomination is received then an election shall follow with new term starting on 1 December 2024”.
ICC rules stipulate that nine votes or a simple majority (51%) must be attained in order for any candidate to occupy the seat of chairman. It will include sixteen ballots in total. Prior incumbents needed a two-thirds majority vote in order to hold onto their seats as chairman.

Most members voted favorably among the 16. Shah will remain as BCCI secretary for one more year and then take a break from it for three years beginning in October 2025.
According to the approved BCCI Constitution by Supreme Court, an office-bearer can be in power for six years before going through a three-year cooling-off period. One person may hold such an office for eighteen years out of which nine are in State Associations while the other nine are in BCCI.
Shah will have four years remaining at BCCI if he agrees to go to ICC with his last year remaining as a secretary.
This would make him ICC’s youngest ever chairman at age 35.
