There was speculation that Tareq Rahman be appointed head of the interim administration by BNP which seeks his exiled acting chairman since 2008 in London as reported by some student leaders thus highlighting challenges of establishing new path for this nation.
“We fought against Hasina’s Nazi regime where we lost brothers and friends. We must formulate guidelines for setting up an interim government. Ronny told this publication yesterday evening: “We won’t let political parties such as BNP or Jatiya Party dictate terms.”
Moreover, one source within the students even alleged that BNP was responsible for derailing talks aimed at forming an interim administration. The army commander General Waqar-uz-Zaman also came under fire from several student leaders because of his involvement in it.
“His engagement with extremist groups like Jamaat or Hefazat-e-Islam alongside their inclusion led us to disapprove it.” In addition, a student source stated; “We don’t want any temporary government which would have to answer before army.”
“If there are any BNP members inside an interim administration then let there be a fresh movement,” he said. “Awami League and BNP are two sides of the same coin. We desire a new beginning with individuals who are baggage-free,” said an insider.
