sharad pawar criticizes PM Modi about “one nation, one election 2024.”

On his I-Day speech, the PM argued for the concept of “one nation, one election” and on Friday, ECI announced one phase of voting in Haryana and three phases of voting in J&K.

“Why won’t the forthcoming state Assembly elections take place concurrently with those in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana?” asked Sharad Pawar while speaking at an event here Saturday. “The next time you meet him (PM Modi), ask him if he has ever spoken a word of truth,” sharad pawar said to reporters on Nagpur’s outskirts that same day.

Modi advocated for “one nation, one election” during his Independence Day speech. In J&K there will be three rounds of polling according to EC on Friday while Haryana will have a single round held sometime between September and October this year. It says that until Maharashtra had its own security issues soon after assembly elections which were concluded last year together with Haryana for example as stated by 2019 Election Commission Order No:469/TA-LA/1/2019/JL-1 dated 27th August 2019.

“In Maharashtra itself, the polls have not been declared yet two states already know their election dates.” Therefore none of what he said is true. “The decision taken by the Election Commission to withdraw from Maharashtra was a negation of Modi’s One Nation One Election plan,” party leader added.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Rajeev Kumar who spoke during Ganeshotsav, Pitrupaksha, Navratri and Diwali festivals slated for Friday did not declare Assembly poll schedules but stated that they would happen before the current Legislative term ends.

Similarly, Siva Shiv UBT also took offense with Maharashtra not declaring elections. The ECs responses which exposed the untruths told by Central government were claimed by a former minister of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Aaditya Thackeray.

Previously the allies of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) had criticized the Election Commission for the poll schedule. They said that BJP led Mahayuti seemed to be looking for more time to “dupe” people of Maharashtra with its false promises.

Pawar said it was wrong for such a situation within the community relating to unrest in Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar because of an alleged offensive statement against Hindu religious leader Ramgiri Maharaj. The religious leader justified his comments stating they were a response to atrocities committed on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Events unfolding in Pakistan have never been linked with anything happening here in India – PawarAccordingly, he made this remark following current clashes in some cities against the terrible things which have happened against Hindus living in Bangladesh.

The protests held on Friday over crimes committed against Hindus and other minority groups in Bangladesh turned violent escalating tension between two Maharashtra cities. There was a clash during a bandh called by ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj’ at Nashik between two parties. During this clash there was stone pelting that resulted into injuries on several police men 18 while more others also sustained injuries. Similar reports were received from Jalgaon about stone pelting incidents during protest march.

one nation one election

Harmony, peace, unity—these are what every fabric of society must live together as today.

According to Pawar, government policies can be discussed upon regarding its actions or not having Home Department accountable; “I do not want to comment anything because I think harmony and peace is more important.”
